ABOUT ME

Hi! I'm Carolyn Yang, an aspiring IT professional with experience in the Unified Communications field. My communication skills are one of my key strengths, and I am passionate about pursuing a career in a client-facing role, whether in sales, consulting, or another related field.I am originally from Reston, VA, and currently a junior at Florida State University in Tallahassee, FL, pursuing a double major in Information Technology and Economics. With an expected graduation date of May 2026, I am actively seeking a paid internship opportunity for the upcoming summer.I previously interned at Point Rock Solutions, a government contracting company servicing the Department of Defense, based in the DC area. In this role, I gained valuable experience working within a team to support clients and enhanced my knowledge of unified communications and business development.Currently, I work as a VoIP Technical Specialist at FSU IT Services, where I’ve further developed my expertise in unified communications and gained experience using tools like Microsoft Excel.Additionally, I work as a freelance UX Designer for Arcvale, where I have honed my skills in Figma and Adobe Creative Cloud and deepened my understanding of design thinking and the UX design process.

SKILLS

I have experience working with a variety of programming languages such as HTML, CSS, SQL, Java, and JavaScript. My work spans across web development, where I focus on UX designIn terms of software and tools, I am proficient in design applications such as Figma, Canva, and Adobe Creative Cloud (including Photoshop, Illustrator, and XD). I also have extensive experience with the Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom, and Google Workspace for communication and collaboration. I am familiar with version control platforms like Git and GitHub, and have worked with relational databases, including MySQL.Beyond technical skills, I specialize in UX design, conducting research, creating wireframes, building prototypes, and performing user testing to ensure designs are intuitive and meet user needs. My project management experience includes working with Agile methodologies and utilizing tools such as Jira and Trello to track progress and foster effective team collaboration.Additionally, I possess strong communication skills, having worked in cross-department teams and interacting directly with clients to ensure smooth technical operations. This includes experience with VoIP system implementation and unified communications platform migrations, where I collaborate with technical teams to deliver seamless solutions.

Literacy Volunteers of Leon County Website Redesign

FSU ITS ZOOM MIGRATION RESEARCH

During my internship with FSU IT Services as a VoIP Technical Specialist, I was tasked to research other universities who are currently migrating to zoom, or have migrated zoom. I was assigned two universities, Snead State Community College and Florida Southwestern State College. However, I was able to pick an additional university of my choice, which ended up being the University of Virginia. I picked this university partially because Virginia is my home state, but mostly because the University of Virginia had a very detailed migration plan that was available to the public, unlike the other two universities.

LITERACY OF LEON COUNTY WEBSITE REDESIGN

As part of my LIS3793 Information Architecture class, I was tasked to find a local Tallahassee business or organization with a website that needed updating. After researching numerous businesses and organizations, I decided to choose the Literacy Volunteers of Leon County website to redesign throughout the semester. I chose this organization partially due to their website having a lot of room for improvement, but also due to finding their mission admirable.

This website redesign process contained numerous steps, such as a preliminary analysis of the website, the creation of a persona, the creation of a sitemap, and lastly, the creation of a prototype.
